America Inspires Freedom: The Kosovo Story is an official America250 international programming initiative commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America.
The project is led by the Albanian American Foundation, which serves as an official programming partner of America250, the United States Semiquincentennial Commission established by the U.S. Congress to coordinate national and international activities marking America's 250th anniversary in 2026.
Through a formal Memorandum of Understanding signed in April 2026, Kosovo became the first and only country outside the United States officially included in America250's international programming. This historic recognition reflects the extraordinary relationship between Kosovo and the United States and the profound impact of American leadership in advancing freedom, peace, democracy, and statehood in Kosovo.
Our Mission
The mission of America Inspires Freedom: The Kosovo Story is to:
- Celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America;
- Honor the enduring friendship between Kosovo and the United States;
- Educate younger generations about the role of democratic values, civic engagement, and international partnership;
- Promote dialogue on freedom, democracy, leadership, education, security, and the rule of law;
- Strengthen people-to-people ties between Kosovo and the United States;
- Preserve and share personal stories reflecting America's impact on Kosovo's journey to freedom.
Key Activities
The project includes:
- National conferences and public forums throughout Kosovo;
- Academic discussions hosted by leading educational institutions;
- Municipal partnership events across several Kosovo municipalities;
- Educational initiatives involving students and schools;
- Distinguished guest lectures by American policymakers, diplomats, military leaders, scholars, and civic leaders;
- Publication of the commemorative volume;
- Recognition event honoring individuals and institutions that have made this project possible.
Partners
The project is implemented by the Albanian American Foundation under a programming partnership MoU with America250 and a broad coalition of local and international partners, including municipalities, universities, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and friends of Kosovo in the United States.
Together, we seek to ensure that America's 250th anniversary serves not only as a celebration of the American experience, but also as a reaffirmation of the values of freedom, democracy, opportunity, and partnership that continue to inspire people around the world.
